Alder describes how to listen to Beast: Spawn.

Date: Tue, 16 Apr 2002 03:54:26 -0700
From: Euglena~
Subject: [nw604] spawn

np: 3rd time - beast :: spawn

Still the best psytrance tune of all time to date, imho.

If you loop it with a CDJ700 between (min:sec) ~5:35 and ~0:27.87..., you get to
experience the crux of the chune twice.

The keys to maximum life change experience are:

1) Well before loop begins, just at song start, drink water deeply if needed. Begin
breathing deeply and purposefully.

2) DJ: starting at around 3:50, slowly, imperceptably, , ramp the volume up from 7/8 max
to LED's-bumpin' triple-yellows (on an Allen & Heath Xone 464) at precisely 2:50.

DJ and dancers should breathe *deeply* and consciously during that time period in
order to saturate muscle tissue with O2 for approaching aerobic physiological event.

At 2:50, you will find yourself momentarily pausing at a ~2-second break, a chasm at
edge of chaos. We freeze, breathless, motionless...as an electric, communal aura
emerges from everyone on the dance floor who have ever heard Beast...because
<smiling> ... we know what's f'kin' coming next.

At ~2:48 - at the end of that break - we embark together on a 1 minute-15 second once-
in-lifetime trip though psychedelica during which we all come unglued in dance.

Unglued.

Just let it go. Go crazy. Punch the air. Sream at the moon. Rip up all the shit anybody's
ever shoved at you. Make faces at it. Let your tongue stick out. Mouth the sonic patterns.
Breathe fast and deeply to feed oxygen to your muscle cells, pumping ATP...

3) DJ: if you set START LOOP right, punch END LOOP at ~27:87...and it will loop again.

For those who missed it the first time, you'll get a second try.

For the rest of us, a second psychedelic orgasm.

Life is good.

4) Do it on an mackie/EAW system, 6500 - 20 kW, outdoors, summer, under stars, with
LOTS of other trancers.

The system should be comfortably bumping red during this time
period. (Allen & Heath builds excess protection into the Xone, understanding that DJ are
merely riding an accoustic surf at moments like this, out of control.) If the system is
**tuned** and appropriately limited to prohibit excesses, it will become sentient,
exceeding system expectations by 2X, and lives are changed forever.

Peace is what we want,
Respect is a first step,
Love is what we need,
Unity is a dream...

Conner describes Bamboo Forest

Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 15:12:05 -0700 (PDT)
From: Connor Sexton
Subject: [nw604] totd: bamboo forest - infinity

This is uniquely heavy. Not too dark, not especially wizzy, excellent midnight-in-the-bamboo
forest music. Sometimes I wonder if their studio isn't indeed in a forest somewhere because
the reverbs, echoes, delays, pads, and almost all of their intros are so foresty; perfect for
bouncing off the wall of trees behind the dancespace.

The new Bamboo Forest album, Random Future is the best artist album I've heard this year.. Top
notch production, masterful flow moving from slightly funky evening realms into the heavy dark
night then to some distinct morning tracks and closing the journey off with a dubby veil. You
can tell a lot of thought and work went into each track.

Connor

"I embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a
widow. To feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human." Tool - Lateralus

dj anti topped off his set with this track at PF. I'm not too keen on bothering a world famous
dj with a "what fucking track is this!!!!???" but I had to, and now I've gotten my ears around
it once again. Leaves a lot to be desired compared to the experience of that whole sunrise
set and the night that gave rebirth to it (and who could forget the incredible sound), but it
still rocks. The melody is just a hair this side of clubby, but it lends itself to the
morning full-on sound, and especially the space anti seems to be a master at creating.
its nice to be taken back to that experience.

Is there a good reason they don't make trance like this anymore???
i'm always going off about the italiens, i know...
Their music just inspires these intense visitation moments, that leave you feeling like
you've just had an interaction with aliens (sorry alder hehehe) that can communicate at
levels far beyond human consciousness and just being in their psychic presense leaves you
in a confused and fried out state for days...
If there is any good evidence of alien activity on earth it is the catalog of work that has
been mysteriously issued forth from various studios in Italy, Ibiza, Brazil, and South
Africa during visists by the strange and unforgettable sonic entity known sometimes as
Etnica, sometimes as Pleiadians, and very rarely as Crop Circles.

Talamasca - The Old School

track #6 off his Musica Divinorum album released on Spiral Trax

the newest song ive heard, that reminds me of how goa used to sound in
'95-96... but with 21st century production quality...

roughly reminds me of Nemesis - Snake Dance... which is one of the best
fucking psy tracks of all time!!! (in my oppinion)

Could be what you are looking for... It was the first track I played during
my set at Ubar Tmar... and had a great crowd reaction! I think the song was
too god tho... Cuz after that everything kind of fell apart... i
trainwrecked a lot... and cleared the sandfloor. (Or maybe I just suck more
then im will to admit)

haha

Yes, agreed (at least the six I know,
and knowing how much I like TGC's mixes,
I'm sure I'd agree with the others also.)

I'd also add the following to extend
understanding of historical development of the genre:

Twisted Records: Dementertainment (esp trk 2 = Beast: Spawn)
Infected Mushroom (especially Classical Mushroom & BP Empire)
Colors of Shiva
Space Cat: Beam Me Up
Cop
Juno Reactor: Bible of Dreams
Cosmosis: Synergy
X-Dream: Radio
